“Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Yip Harburg
Vocals: Anna E. Kravis
Guitar: Miles Kravis
Music from the Vault: Back in the late 70’s, I starred in an off-Broadway country western women’s lib musical comedy, “Sisters and Brothers”. It was written by Luann Horstman, a wonderful songwriter, who also wrote all the songs. When the show closed I drove down to RCA in Nashville to record Luanne’s Shopping Bag Woman and You’re the One. My first day in Nashville I met the legendary Chet Atkins who was kind enough to get me the best studio musicians for my session. The players were so good that they arranged the songs on the spot and we recorded each in one take. I had been so nervous I didn’t even warm up my voice! Shopping Bag Woman is a hoot to listen to today. But back then it was a strong political statement. Not only did I walk away with two excellent recordings, but Chet and I became good friends. He taught me a nice arrangement for Mr. Bojangles on my banjo.
